Coburn and Steep Win U21 Provincials

The 2019 U21 Provincials at the Annandale G&CC came to a close with two Ontario champions emerging. Team Coburn is the 2019 Ontario U21 women’s champion, and team Steep is the 2019 Ontario men’s champion. Team Coburn finished round robin with a 4-3 record, and strung together three wins in a row to capture the Ontario crown and a place at Nationals next month. They advanced from the tie-breaker after a 6-5 win over team Auld, and followed it up with a 7-6 win over team Wallingford, to advance to the final. Team Bernard was awaiting as they earned the bye after a 6-1 round robin record. Team Coburn kept the momentum going with a 9-5 win. Team Steep finished round robin with a 5-2 record, earning them a bye to the men’s final. Team Mooibroek would meet them in the final after a 8-2 win over team Poole in the men’s semi-final. A back-and-forth game saw the teams head to the 10th end tied, with Mooibroek holding hammer. Team Steep stole the end and the game, with the final 8-7. Belliveau & Jones Win TCA’s; Playoffs Set At U21 Provincials

The 2018 TCA Youth Championships saw 14 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams compete in the 3 day event hosted at the Oshawa Curling Club. The 38th annual event wrapped up yesterday with team Belliveau winning the women’s event and team J.Jones winning the men’s event. Both winners topped the round robin charts, with 4-0 records and received byes to the finals. The women’s A final saw team Belliveau top team Guilbault, who advanced after an A semi win over team O’Keefe. The men’s A final saw team J.Jones defeat team Del Conte, who beat team Roitz in the A semi. The men’s B final saw team Niepage best team Hocevar, who beat team Gazeley in the B semi. The women’s B semis saw team Cowan best team Barton, and team Johnston beat team Bertolo. The women’s B final saw team Cowan taking down team Johnston. Team McNamara won the men’s C final against team C.Harris. McNamara beat team Collins in the semi, while team Harris beat team Bryant. The women’s C final had team Byers beating team Kropf. Byers took down team Harris in the semi, while Kropf beat team Scimgeour in the other semi. Team Langworth won the men’s D final over team Fitzsimons. Big Holiday Curling Events

Late December has arrived with two big junior curling events getting underway this holiday season. Annandale Golf & Country Club plays host to the U21 Provincials, with 8 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams looking to represent Ontario at the Canadian Championship in January. Tomorrow also marks the start of the 38th annual TCA Youth Championships, hosted at the Oshawa Curling Club. The east end of the GTA will see both the U21’s and U18’s on the ice, so there’s plenty of action to take in and enjoy. Johnston and Del Conte Win In KW

The KW Granite U18 Cashspiel concluded Sunday with teams Johnston and Del Conte crowned this year’s champions. Charlotte Johnston’s team capped off a great weekend with a 9-5 win in the girl’s final against team Paige Schneider. Johnston’s London Curling Club team finished the weekend with a 6-0 record, going undefeated for the event. Daniel Del Conte’s team also put the finishing touches on an undefeated weekend, with a 6-0 win in the boy’s final against team Jacob Jones. Del Conte’s Hamilton Victoria Club team out scored their opponents by an average of 5 on their way to winning the spiel. The girl’s B final saw a meeting of two KW teams, with team Kropf scoring a 8-2 win over team Eadie. London’s team Evely/Woodend won the girl’s C final 9-6 over team Mahra Harris.
