U21 Season Points Champions

The OJCT is pleased to announce this season’s U21 points champions.   The women’s 2018-19 points champion is team Kiemele, representing the Elora Curling Club. Congratulations to skip Mackenzie Kiemele, vice Emma McKenzie, second Audrey Wallbank, lead Jessica Filipcic, and coach Glenn Paulley.     The men’s 2018-19 points champion is team Hart, representing the Whitby Curling Club. Congratulations to skip Joey Hart, vice Scott Mitchell, second Nathan Steele, lead David Hart, and coaches Colin Mitchell and Richard Hart.       The final top 10’s for 2018-19 were as follows: U21 Women: 1. Deschenes and Niepage Win In Barrie

The Stu Sells U18 Tankard wrapped up Sunday at the Barrie curling club, where the 34 teams were whittled down to 2 champions. Topping the women’s field was team Deschenes, who captured the title via a 7-3 win over team Vivier. Team Niepage won the men’s side in a close 6-5 game against team Rooney. With the wins, both champs capped off undefeated weekends and finished at 6-0. The women’s playoffs saw team Deschenes advance to the final after a 6-5 win over team MacKay. Team Vivier advanced to the final after winning their semi-final 7-1 over team Croisier. The women’s quarters saw team MacKay beat team Weldy 10-6, and team Croisier beat team Steele 8-2. The men’s quarters saw team Rooney beat team Del Conte 5-3, and team Harris beat team Leung 5-1. The semis saw Rooney keep the momentum going in a 8-0 win over team Massey, while Harris fell victim to the eventual champs, team Niepage, by a score of 9-0. 6 teams made up the consolation brackets, with teams Thorne, Guilbault, and Belliveau on the women’s side, and teams Flannery, DeBruin, and Goves on the men’s side. U18’s Head To The StuSells

With U21 qualifying wrapped up, the attention shifts to the U18’s and the Stu Sells U18 Junior Tankard. 34 teams will head to the Barrie curling club as 17 men’s and 17 women’s teams duke it out for the titles. The field is ripe with strong contenders, as the top 10 women’s teams, and 13 of the top 15 men’s teams are playing. Big points and momentum are on the line as teams look to hit mid season form. U21 Provincial Field Set

The final 4 births to U21 provincials were on the line this weekend, as 2 women’s spots and 2 men’s spots were up for grabs at the U21 challenge round. 5 women’s teams ventured to the Hamilton Victoria Club to try and earn their place at provincials. Team Bernard strung together 3 straight wins to claim the A-side birth, with wins of 9-4, 8-7 and 10-3. After an opening 6-5 loss to team Doig, team Kastrau rebounded with 2 wins (11-3 over team Don and 7-6 over team Steele) before entering a rematch against team Doig in the B-final. In a back-and-forth game, Kastrau emerged victorious 9-6, and claimed the last women’s spot at provincials. 6 men’s teams headed to Lindsay this weekend, with their sights set on grabbing one of the two remaining births. Team Hahn claimed the A-side with 3 wins in a row (8-5 vs Roitz, 6-2 vs Fenech, and 3-1 vs Steep). Team Steep dropped into the B-final, where they met team Del Conte, who took down team Fenech 8-6 in the B-semi. A key steal of 2 in the 8th end put team Steep up 6-5, and after forcing Del Conte in the 9th, they scored in 10 to win the B-side.
