The 2018 TCA Youth Championships saw 14 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams compete in the 3 day event hosted at the Oshawa Curling Club. The 38th annual event wrapped up yesterday with team Belliveau winning the women’s event and team J.Jones winning the men’s event. Both winners topped the round robin charts, with 4-0 records and received byes to the finals. The women’s A final saw team Belliveau top team Guilbault, who advanced after an A semi win over team O’Keefe. The men’s A final saw team J.Jones defeat team Del Conte, who beat team Roitz in the A semi.
The men’s B final saw team Niepage best team Hocevar, who beat team Gazeley in the B semi. The women’s B semis saw team Cowan best team Barton, and team Johnston beat team Bertolo. The women’s B final saw team Cowan taking down team Johnston. Team McNamara won the men’s C final against team C.Harris. McNamara beat team Collins in the semi, while team Harris beat team Bryant. The women’s C final had team Byers beating team Kropf. Byers took down team Harris in the semi, while Kropf beat team Scimgeour in the other semi. Team Langworth won the men’s D final over team Fitzsimons. Men’s D semi-finalists were teams H.Jones and Jefferson.
U21 Provincials at the Annandale Golf & Country Club saw round robin end yesterday, with the playoff teams set. On the women’s side, team Bernard finished as the top team, with a 6-1 record and punched their ticket to the final. Teams Wallingford, Coburn and Auld finished with 4-3 records, but Wallingford’s shootout score give them a semi-final birth. Coburn and Auld met in a tie-breaker game last night, with team Coburn advancing to the semi-final after a 6-5 extra end thriller. The rest of the standings saw teams Kastrau and Warriner finish at 3-4, and teams Gray and Kiemele finish at 2-5.
On the men’s side, round robin ended with teams Steep and Mooibroek at 5-2, with team Steep getting the bye to the final via their head-to-head win. Team Mooibroek awaits the tie-breaker winner in the semi-final. Teams Poole, Goodkey, and Hahn tied at 4-3 records, with teams Poole and Goodkey advancing to a tie-breaker game. Teams Hart and Rooney finished a game back at 3-4, while team Massey rounded out the field.
