The first weekend of U18 playdowns concluded Sunday, with 12 teams booking their spot at provincials. The Brockville country club hosted the men’s and women’s ‘A’ qualifier, with 4 tickets to provincials up for grabs. Teams Deschenes and Mulima captured the A-sides, while teams Vivier and Rooney won the B-sides. The Gravenhurst curling club hosted the women’s ‘B’ qualifier, with team Dobson winning the A-side, and team S.Johnston capturing the B-side. The men’s ‘B’ qualifier took place at the Minden curling club, where team Niepage captured the A-side, and team Hocevar won the B-side. The women’s ‘C’ qualifier took place at the Sun Parlour curling club, where team Cruikshank emerged victorious with the A-side win, and team Money won the B-side. The Welland curling club hosted the men’s ‘C’ qualifier, where team Bryant captured the A-side, and team J.Jones won the B-side.
Congratulations to the provincial qualifiers who will now head to the Oshawa golf & curling club for provincials, March 14-18. With the first 12 spots claimed, the remaining 4 spots will be filled at the U18 challenge round, taking place Feb. 21-23 at the Annandale golf & curling club.
