Thanksgiving weekend saw junior curling action in the Ottawa region, with the OVCA Superspiel Qualifier at the Almonte Curling Club. Up for grabs were 3 Superspiel spots on the women’s side and 4 Superspiel spots on the men’s side. Team Hahn won their way through the men’s A side to grab the first spot, finishing with a 8-4 win over team McNamara. Team McNamara would go on to face team King in the B final, with both teams advancing, and a tight extra end affair went in favour of team King by a 8-7 score. The 4th men’s spot was on the line in the C final, where teams Collins and Rowe met, and it was team Rowe advancing to the Superspiel via a 6-4 victory.

The 10 women’s teams were split into 2 pools of 5, with round robin games against the whole pool. Team Comeau topped pool A with a 4-0 record, while Team Deschenes claimed pool B with a 4-0 record, and both teams advanced to the Superspiel. In a seeding game between the 2 pool winners, team Deschenes won by a 6-4 score. The final women’s Superspiel spot was on the line as the 2nd place teams in each pool faced off. In a battle of two 3-1 teams, a 7-2 score went in favour of team Thorne over team Vivier.

Best of luck to the 7 teams who join the Superspiel field, and will play a variety of national and international teams in 2 weeks time at the Superspiel.
