The season’s first event concluded Sunday at the Carleton Heights Junior Labour Day Cashspiel. 8 men’s and 8 women’s team descended on the nation’s capital and Carleton Heights, looking for a good early season result. The women’s championship featured teams Sutherland, Comeau, Vivier, and Gray, while the men’s championship featured teams McNamara, Flannery, Hahn, and Marin.

Women’s semi-final matchups saw the #4 seed, team Gray, take down the #1 seed, team Sutherland, by a score of 7-1. In the other semi-final, the #2 seed, team Comeau, bested the #3 seed, team Vivier, by a 6-4 score. On the men’s side, The #1 seed, team McNamara, continued to roll in a 9-1 win over the #4 seed, team Marin. Men’s play also saw the #3 seed, team Hahn, win a tight game 5-4 against the #2 seed, team Flannery.

The championship finals saw team Gray win the women’s title 5-2, over team Comeau, while team Sutherland claimed the B final 7-1 against team Vivier. On the men’s side, a 6-6 game entering the 8th end, was claimed by team Hahn, who scored with hammer to defeat team McNamara. The B final was won by team Marin, who beat team Flanney by a 8-4 score.
